Depends where I guess you're travelling from, happy to travel to? If you're not fussed how the weather will be you can never go wrong with the lake district, scenery is just stunning. Anglesey is another lovely place, not overly loads to do on the island but gorgeous beaches. And I guess you can never go wrong with the South West coast, Devon, Cornwall etc.

Depending on where you're coming from you have great links to both from places like Crewe and Liverpool to take you to the lakes or Wales. Porthmadog area is really nice, lovely beach at Criccieth. Not far from Llandudno too. And anywhere in the lakes is stunning. Making me want to visit now haha x

 

Where are you starting from? Llandudno isn't bad to get to by rail, they have fast trains to get you there. Porthmadog is a total pain by rail, it took 5 hours the last time I tried that. Though if you're feeling adventurous, you can try connecting to the Ffestiniog railway at Blanau Ffestiniog and take the steam railway down to the Porthmadog.

 

Well, you're saying family, so I'm guessing that means kids...I guess that would preclude a tour of Scottish distilleries.

When I lived in the UK, I lived near Bridlington. That's always nice and plenty for kids to do, or further up the coast Scarborough.
