Let me throw this out there - if you post, repost, repeat, requote personal information, after having been asked to be more aware of the rules and to please be more careful, tell me what you think should happen. First offense, you've been informed of rules. What happens a second time now that there is record of a member already breaking a rule?

Should all three members who posted and then reposted personal information have been banned without explanation?

Should all three members have been told to be more aware of the rules and to please be more careful?

You tell me. If rules are black and white, what should have happened? Is warning a member favoritism? Or is it common courtesy because sometimes people make mistakes?

Because I also got asked not to quote personal information and to please be more careful in future.

Nothing I quoted had any personal information in my opinion.
I think it needs to be made clear what is and what isn't personal information.

 

You repeated information in a quote by someone else. It included a first name and a location. You didn't do it on purpose, but it happened. I edited all three posts to remove the personal information.

I see what you mean but how about Big Mick(username) from Liverpool(location) ? That is no different.
There's plenty on here like that.
As well as people who post their email, containing their first name, and asking for contacts in Toronto, his area.
That's just the same surely.

 

I sent you a pm to explain this in more depth. The site allows people to use whatever name the wish as a user name. The site allows them to use their own email addresses, if they choose. You have the option of posting your location in your bio. It's a whole other thing when someone takes it upon themselves to announce to the world your real name and location.

In this most recent case, the member has done a lot to remove the information he posted over the years. You see, he's to a point in his life where as he ventures out into the world and pursues education and a career, he doesn't want people putting two and two together.

 

I still don't feel just a first name and a town is personal information in any way. It will fit thousands upon thousands of people so isn't personal in any way.

kinda like the girl who sexts pics to a friend and is then surprised when those pics end up plastered all over her classmate's phones or even to the internet.

 

And I will add one more thing. What if your name isn't common? What if you live in a really, really, small town? What if your children were members here and didn't know their father was? What if your boss figured out you posted naked pics.

Uncomfortable? Could it jeopardize your future? This is why some people want their personal information to remain private.

I work a call center dealing with MANY people across the world.

You would be surprised at how many single accounts can be brought up with just the first name and postal code. It all depends on the name.

no doubt you can. with a very rare name and a postal code. I think most people could do that. but with just a normal first name and a location it would be impossible.

Put John, location Liverpool (for example) into any search and you'd never find the right one.

the rules on here get madder by the minute

so i've got my first name in my username and my location where i'm from and that is okay.
but if i posted on the forums "my name is *** and i'm from ******** " i could be banned and so could anybody who quoted me and also anybody else who posted my name and location.

thats just mad.
